British Values

British values are fundamental principles that promote a cohesive and inclusive society, and they are just as important in schools as they are in wider society. At Greenvale, promoting British values helps us to create a safe and inclusive environment where all students can thrive, regardless of their background. These values include democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.

By teaching these values, we are not only helping to prepare students for life in modern Britain, but also equipping them with the skills and attitudes needed to be responsible and active citizens in a diverse and ever-changing world. Furthermore, by promoting these values, schools can play an important role in preventing radicalization and extremism, creating a safer and more harmonious environment for all students.

At Greenvale Primary School we take very seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of the school. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, our RE, SMSC, and PSHE lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding. Children embrace these concepts with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of their application to their own lives.

The school makes considerable efforts to ensure children have exposure to a wide experience beyond their local community during which these concepts are shown. Their strong rooted values-based understanding gives them an excellent platform for embracing difference.
