At Greenvale, History plays a central theme in many of the topics covered.  We believe that it is important that children learn about what has happened in the past as this will shape what happens in the future.

Children are taught core themes as part of topic work, including learning about progress and change, significant events, everyday life, significant people and local history.  Children are also made aware of links across time periods so that they are able to gain an understanding of chronology.

History learning is enhanced through the use of online resources, visiting local places of interest as well as through school visits from external companies.  Many of these visits bring history to life and include the children handling replicas and immersing themselves into the role of different characters from those time periods.
